Just a week after the Nigeria Customs Service unlocked the Illela land border connecting Nigeria and Niger Republic, the government of Niger Republic followed suit by opening its border in Konni for operations last Friday.

According to Nuhu Samaila, a source from Konni, Niger Republic, who briefed reporters, the border officially reopened at noon on Friday. Samaila praised the decision of the country's leadership, the military junta, for heeding the people's calls and ensuring the border's reopening.

"It's a commendable move by the government to finally take this step," he said. "We've been hoping for this border to reopen ever since the Nigerian side was declared open. I believe this will greatly boost the economies of both countries by facilitating more trade between Nigeria and Niger Republic."

Last Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu directed the restoration of electricity supply to the Republic of Niger, alongside the reopening of Nigeria's land and air borders with the neighboring country.
