In Imo State, a 26-year-old female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Sanni Mariam, from the 2023 Batch C Stream 2 has lost her life in a fatal accident.

The accident also claimed the lives of other passengers and the driver when their vehicle en route to Lagos was involved in a crash.

Mariam, who had recently completed her three-week compulsory orientation in Benue State, was returning from her state of deployment. Reports indicate that she had boarded a commercial bus bound for Lagos through Imo.

Report gathered that Mariam had taken an early exit from the camp in Benue State, where she was undergoing orientation. The camping period was expected to conclude by the following Thursday.

A Computer Science graduate from Universite Protestante de Lafrique de l’Ouest, Benin Republic, Mariam was recognized for her achievements during orientation. She had earned multiple awards for her platoon, including excellence in the Scrabble platoon game.

Despite efforts to contact the Benue State NYSC State Coordinator for further details, no response was received, as calls and messages went unanswered at the time of the press. The incident stands as a somber reminder of the uncertainties and challenges faced by youth corps members during their service year.
