The Ogun State Government has given the green light for the reconstruction of 11 major roads, strategically spread across the three senatorial districts of the state.
This significant approval was one of the key resolutions reached during the recent State Executive Council meeting, presided over by Governor Dapo Abiodun.
Notable Road Projects Approved
One of the most remarkable projects in the approval list is the Akute Bridge to Agbado (Lateef Jakande) Train Terminal/Pass/Agbado Bridge, spanning 9.2 km. This vital infrastructure upgrade is expected to enhance connectivity and ease transportation within the area.
Additionally, the state government has approved the construction of laybys and several adjoining roads to complement the primary reconstruction effort, ensuring smoother traffic flow.
Other crucial road projects approved include:
- Iperu Junction to Ilishan Roundabout (Gateway International Airport Road) – 5.5 km
- Imasayi-Igan Okoto-Ayetoro Road (Phase 2B) – 4 km
- Imasayi (End of Phase 1) to Igan Okoto (Phase 2A) – 3 km

Fulfilling Promises for Improved Road Infrastructure
Governor Abiodun reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to infrastructural development while commissioning the 3.12 km Oke Erinja to Erinja Road. During the event, he promised to extend the road reconstruction further to Ilobi, emphasizing the significance of the region as a vital food-producing hub in the state.
“It was never our intention to halt the road at Oke-Erinja. The people of Erinja and Ilobi are inseparable like Siamese twins, and I assure you that we will complete the road to Ilobi,” the governor stated.
Major Road Projects to Enhance Ogun-Lagos Connectivity
Governor Abiodun also pledged to award the contract for the reconstruction of the Sango-Ijoko-Akute Road within a week. This initiative aligns with the administration’s efforts to strengthen transportation links between Ogun and Lagos, particularly for residents in border communities.
“We have not overlooked our border towns. Over the last two weeks, we have visited Ifo Local Government multiple times due to the high number of commuters traveling between there and Lagos daily,” he explained.
The Sango-Ijoko-Akute Road, spanning 17 km, is a major arterial route connecting Ogun West to Ogun Central and Lagos. Governor Abiodun acknowledged that without its reconstruction, the ongoing works on Akute-Ajuwon, Alagbole-Ajuwon, Giwa-Oke-Aro, and Alagbole-Akute roads would not be fully appreciated.
Enhancing Road Networks for Economic Growth
The approval of these road projects underscores the Ogun State Government’s unwavering dedication to infrastructural growth, economic development, and improved transportation for residents. These upgrades are expected to ease movement, reduce travel time, and foster economic activities across the state.
With Governor Abiodun’s administration prioritizing key road projects, Ogun State is set to witness enhanced connectivity, making life easier for commuters and boosting commerce within the region.
