Yesterday in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State, some Yale staff in Ibadan violently protested against the company’s alleged refusal to distribute palliatives provided by the federal government.

The protest has brought to light the deepening frustration and desperation among the employees.

One of the protesters, who wished to remain anonymous, recounted the events leading up to the unrest. According to this source, the company had repeatedly failed to deliver the promised palliatives. This failure catalysed the employees’ decision to take to the streets to display their anger and dissatisfaction.

In an attempt to quell the protest, Yale management sought assistance from the police and civil defence forces. Unfortunately, the presence of law enforcement only served to escalate tensions further. The situation deteriorated into violence when the police allegedly fired shots to disperse the protesters. This tragic turn of events resulted in at least one death and left another protester severely injured and hospitalized.
