Chaos erupted at No.

161 Beverly Hills Estate, GRA in Onitsha, Anambra State, on Sunday when a 40-foot truck, registered as Delta ASB 405YZ and loaded with cement, crashed into a residential building. Despite the severity of the incident, fortunately, no lives were lost.

Reports have it that the truck driver lost control while navigating the estate's hilly terrain, resulting in the vehicle plowing into the house and causing significant damage, including the destruction of two luxury cars, the perimeter fence gate, and several structural pillars.

The incident was reportedly preventable. The Chief Security Officer of the estate had advised the driver to turn back, warning that the estate's topography made it unsuitable for heavy-duty vehicles. Ignoring the warning, the driver attempted to reach his destination, an unfinished building where the cement was to be offloaded. However, the truck's weight caused it to lose control and descend the hill uncontrollably, culminating in the crash.

An anonymous resident shared, "The driver was adamant about proceeding to the destination despite the warnings. As he navigated the steep road, the truck's weight overpowered it, leading to the collision with the house and the destruction of the vehicles, fence, and pillars."

Uche Adoga, the landlord and a retired civil servant, recounted the harrowing experience. "My family and I were upstairs when we heard a deafening noise. Looking outside and seeing the gathered crowd, I was so shocked that I fainted. Upon regaining consciousness, I saw the extent of the damage—my two cars, including a newly bought one and a Venza jeep, were completely destroyed. The truck had demolished our fence gate, wall, pillars, and numerous other items beyond recognition."

The driver, who was allegedly making phone calls during the incident, attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended by concerned residents and other landlords. He is currently detained at the 3-3 police station.
