The All Progressives Congress (APC) has excluded political appointees in the party from voting at Saturday's convention due to the dispute surrounding section 84 (12) of the modified electoral laws.

In a statement released on Thursday, the party stated as much.

According to the announcement, "The National Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee has declared that all political appointees who were chosen as delegates to the National Convention set for March 26, 2022, shall not vote."

"Political appointees may, however, attend the convention as observers," the statement continued.

The ban is a precautionary measure as political parties spar over a contentious piece of the electoral act.

On Wednesday, the National Assembly promised to appeal a ruling by the Federal High Court's Umuahia Division ordering the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, to remove the contentious part from the election act.

Following that, the National Assembly declared a state of emergency on the topic, pending the completion of all appeal processes.
