Yesterday, President Bola Tinubu expressed his administration's commitment to making Nigeria self-sufficient in food production and transforming the country into a net exporter of agricultural products.
This ambitious goal, he emphasized, will be achieved through what he termed "aggressive mechanization."
During a meeting with a delegation from the Global Tijaniyya Movement, led by Khalifa Muhammad Mahe Niass, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Tinubu affirmed his administration's dedication to providing ease and support for the 2024 Hajj pilgrims.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, titled 'President Tinubu: We are determined to achieve food sufficiency for Nigeria,' Tinubu outlined his vision for the agricultural sector. He declared, "Nigeria will become a net exporter of food. We are bringing thousands of tractors. Food production will be greatly expanded through aggressive mechanisation. We must be productive as a people. That is the Sunnah and the principles I grew up understanding."
Tinubu further detailed plans to enhance agricultural productivity, including the expansion of farmlands, provision of low-interest loans to farmers, and substantial investments in irrigation infrastructure. The president emphasized the importance of collaboration between political and spiritual leaders, stressing that such partnerships are crucial for advancing the nation's interests and fostering unity among the people.
In addition to the focus on agriculture, President Tinubu highlighted his administration's commitment to improving healthcare. He stated, "We are dedicated to equipping hospitals with modern equipment, providing healthcare professionals with training, and ensuring social welfare for every citizen, including comprehensive health insurance coverage."
As the nation looks towards achieving food sufficiency and broader economic development, President Tinubu's agenda underscores the importance of a holistic approach that involves collaboration between various sectors and leaders to create a sustainable and prosperous future for Nigeria.
