In light of recent concerns, there's a pressing need for Nigerian tertiary institutions to address the recurring issue of student harassment and intimidation on campus.

This call to action was emphasized by legal expert Mrs. Toyin Ndidi Taiwo during a workshop titled "Combating Sexual Harassment and Intimidation in Tertiary Institutions." The event, organized by the Women in Technical Education and Development (WITED) chapter at Kwara State Polytechnic in collaboration with the Students Union Government, shed light on the urgent need for concrete measures to tackle these issues effectively.

Mrs. Taiwo stressed the importance of implementing robust strategies to prevent and address instances of sexual harassment and intimidation within higher education institutions.

She emphasized the necessity for stronger support systems for victims and advocated for proactive measures to create a safer academic environment.

Adding a religious perspective, Dr. Awwal Olalekan Olorungbebe, Senior Special Adviser to the Kwara State Governor on Community Development, highlighted the significance of adhering to religious teachings that condemn acts of fornication and adultery.

He urged individuals involved in such misconduct to cease their actions, emphasizing the religious consequences of such behavior.

Furthermore, Dr. Olorungbebe urged authorities at the Polytechnic to impose stricter penalties on perpetrators of sexual harassment and intimidation, emphasizing the importance of deterrence in combating these offenses.
