In a recent incident reported by the Lagos State Police Command, a 30-year-old technician named Emmanuel Achogwu has been apprehended for the alleged theft of four solar panels in the Ikosi area of the state.
The arrest was disclosed by the state police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, via his verified X handle on Monday.
According to Hundeyin, the stolen solar panels were originally intended to power streetlights in the Ikosi area. It was revealed that the suspect, Emmanuel Achogwu, had previously been contracted as one of the technicians responsible for installing these panels in the vicinity. However, instead of fulfilling his role, Achogwu reportedly returned to the location to vandalize and steal the solar panels.
Hundeyin provided details, stating, “Recently, #followlasg installed some solar-powered streetlights in some parts of the state. A few weeks later, the solar panels were stolen. The police were informed and got to work. A few days ago, 30-year-old Emmanuel Achogwu was arrested by officers from Alausa Division on Ikosi Road with four solar panels, moments after he removed them.”
The spokesperson further emphasized that the investigation into the matter is ongoing. The arrest highlights the importance of addressing and curbing incidents of theft and vandalism that can hinder public projects aimed at enhancing community infrastructure and safety. The authorities remain vigilant in ensuring the responsible parties are held accountable for their actions.
