In a surprising turn of events, a ValueJet CRJ 900 Bombardier aircraft experienced a runway excursion at Port-Harcourt International Airport, briefly causing panic and chaos among passengers.

The incident unfolded at 15:32 hours as the aircraft, carrying 62 passengers and five flight crew members, overshot the runway. Despite the momentary panic, the aircraft, identified by registration 5N-BXR, managed to land safely, leaving passengers understandably perplexed by the unexpected occurrence.

Fortunately, reports indicate that the incident did not result in any damage to the aircraft. Managing Director of ValueJet, Capt. Dapo Majekodunmi, shed light on the situation, explaining that Captain Stanley Balami reported the slip was caused by algae on the taxiway, preventing the aircraft from maintaining the centerline.

Despite the unusual nature of the incident, Capt. Majekodunmi moved to reassure the public regarding ValueJet's commitment to safety. He emphasized that the airline's operations remain normal and unaffected by the incident, ensuring that passengers can continue to rely on the airline for safe and secure travel.

While such incidents can be disconcerting, the swift response and transparency demonstrated by ValueJet, coupled with the assurance of safety measures, underscore the importance of open communication in maintaining passenger confidence in air travel. As investigations unfold, ValueJet remains dedicated to upholding the highest standards of safety in its operations.
