The Warri Refining and Petrochemicals Company (WRPC) has officially resumed operations, marking a significant milestone in Nigeria's energy sector.
The refinery, which has a production capacity of 125,000 barrels per day, is back in action following extensive rehabilitation efforts.
Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), announced this during a facility tour on Monday.
This progress comes just a month after the successful rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt refinery in Rivers State, further demonstrating NNPCL's commitment to reviving Nigeria's refining capacity.
Speaking during the tour, Kyari emphasized the tangible progress made, stating, “This plant is operational. Although the process is not yet 100% complete, we are steadily moving forward.
"Many people doubt such achievements are possible in this country, but we are here to show that they are. This is real.”
The resumption of operations at WRPC is a pivotal step towards reducing Nigeria’s dependence on imported petroleum products, ensuring energy security, and boosting the nation’s economy.
