The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Kogi State governorship election, Dino Melaye, has said that his decision not to vote during the polls should not be blamed for his defeat.
Melaye came a distant third in the election, with Usman Ododo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) clinching the governorship seat.
There are claims that the former senator may have hampered his chances by refusing to vote during the Saturday poll.
But Dino argues: “People win elections from prison; whether I vote or not, it is immaterial.”
He said on Monday’s edition of Channels Television’s Politics Today: “The issue of voting or not voting has no legal status. People win elections in prison. Legally, it has no relevance to the election. Whether I voted or not, it is immaterial.”
