The Uyo Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has successfully prosecuted and sentenced Ikemesit Edet, also known as Hustle Kingdom (HK), the proprietor of a Cybercrime Training Centre in Uyo.
According to EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, Edet was convicted on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, after pleading guilty to charges including impersonation, love scam, and cybercrime tutoring. The charges stemmed from his operation of the Cybercrime Academy, also known as Hustle Kingdom, where he trained individuals in hacking and other cybercrime techniques.
Edet pleaded guilty to two counts, involving the operation of the Cybercrime Academy and the possession of proceeds from unlawful activities. Prosecution counsel Joshua Abolarin requested the court to convict and sentence him accordingly.
The defence counsel, Francis Ezike, urged the court to consider leniency in sentencing.
After deliberation, Justice Ojukwu sentenced Edet to five years in jail on each count, with an option of a N2 million fine per count. The court also ordered the forfeiture of exhibits recovered from him, including 13 laptops, a Toyota Corolla, a Lexus Jeep RX 300, and land.
Edet's arrest followed investigations by EFCC officials in Uyo, who apprehended 10 suspects at his Cybercrimes Training Centre. All suspects have since been charged and convicted.
This conviction underscores EFCC's commitment to combatting cybercrime and ensuring justice for victims.
