Harry Maguire has been told to leave Manchester United in this winter transfer window.
Former Premier League goalkeeper Brad Friedel wants Maguire to leave Old Trafford to escape the ‘fan abuse’ he receives at the club.
Going into the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup break, Maguire had had a turbulent season, with Erik ten Hag preferring to play Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane ahead of the United captain.
Every little mistake by Maguire has been subjected to much criticism in recent years.
However, the 29-year-old has always repaid the faith of his national team manager, Gareth Southgate, who has refused to listen to the bashing he gets for always sticking with the former Leicester City man.
Maguire was one of England’s top performers during their World Cup campaign in Qatar,
Maguire will hope to reclaim his place in the United team, but Friedel believes he should look elsewhere.
“I think there’s a whole host of reasons why a player like Harry Maguire should possibly look elsewhere,” he told Bookmakers.
“You know, first and foremost, the fan abuse and media abuse that he’s got while at United, it’s gone way over the top of what a sportsman or woman should get.
“I could understand why he might just want to go somewhere else and get a brand new beginning.”
