Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has thanked the club’s co-owner Todd Boehly for “doing everything they could” to complete his £107 million transfer.

Fernandez has put pen to paper on an eight-and-a-half-year contract at Stamford Bridge after the Blues paid Benfica a British-record transfer fee.

The 22-year-old midfielder’s fee has surpassed Jack Grealish’s £100 million move from Aston Villa to Manchester City in August 2021.

The move went down to the wire, with Fernandez undergoing a medical on deadline day in Lisbon after a late breakthrough in talks before paperwork was submitted just in time.

He has now offered his appreciation to Chelsea and Boehly for being persistent.

“I am grateful to Chelsea and its ownership for doing everything they could to make me a part of this project.

“I’m happy and excited to join the Pride of London, to play in the best league in the world, and to compete for the biggest trophies."

“I can’t wait to play in front of our fans and help my team-mates on and off the pitch,” Fernandez told the club’s official website.
