Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke has criticized Arsenal’s lack of activity in the January transfer window, insisting that the Gunners missed a crucial opportunity to strengthen their squad.
Speaking to Casino Beats, Yorke emphasized that Arsenal needed reinforcements to maintain their Premier League title challenge, especially in the crucial months of February and March.
“I think it was clear to everyone watching that Arsenal needed a big-name signing—someone with personality and presence to energize the team and give them that extra push,” Yorke stated. “These months are the real test of a title-winning side, and fresh additions could have made a huge difference.”
Yorke believes Arsenal’s failure to sign new players has deflated both the squad and the fans, contributing to their recent struggles. He specifically pointed out two strikers who could have made an impact—RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak.
“Benjamin Sesko is a quality player, and Alexander Isak is another who could have provided the momentum Arsenal needed,” Yorke added.
Sesko, 21, has been in fine form, netting 17 goals and 5 assists in 33 appearances for Leipzig this season. Meanwhile, 25-year-old Isak has been even more prolific, scoring 21 goals and delivering 5 assists in just 30 games for Newcastle.
Arsenal currently sits 13 points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool, and their fading title hopes have raised concerns among fans. With the season entering a critical phase, Yorke suggests that the Gunners’ lack of transfer activity may come back to haunt them.
