Gary Neville, a former player for Manchester United, has named Diogo Jota and Harvey Elliott as the two players who were instrumental in Liverpool's 1-0 Premier League victory over Manchester City on Sunday.
Neville said Jota and Elliott put in an incredible defensive shift against Manchester City, adding that the duo didn’t take any chances against the Citizens.
Liverpool defeated Man City at Anfield thanks to Mohamed Salah’s 76th-minute winner.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Neville gave special praise to Jota and Elliott for their defensive displays.
He said, “At the end, when [Darwin] Nunez and Salah played together, it looked like they would be a threat. He took a chance, Jurgen Klopp – he’s gone 4-4-2 and turned it up a notch."
“There were two really good performances from Jota and Elliott, chasing back and doubling up with the full-backs. That was a shift you would see from two outer midfield players 15 years ago. They didn’t take any chances.”
