The Barcelona playmaker and skipper; Messi has been said to be “very unlikely” to leave Barcelona this summer because of the financial impact of COVID-19.
This was position by the Brazil legend Ronaldo de Lima.
Since the LaLiga giants lost 8-2 to Bayern Munich, Quique Setien has been sacked as manager and Eric Abidal has been replaced as sporting director.
Barca expect to make more changes especially to the squad ahead of the new season.
Although the club wants Messi to stay, the 32-year-old is believed to be seriously considering his future at the Camp Nou.
The sixth time world best player has been linked with Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, but Ronaldo who now owns LaLiga side Real Valladolid, feels a potential transfer is unrealistic.
“It is very unlikely that Messi will leave Barcelona, especially with the financial crisis in Europe.
“Messi has a very intense relationship with Barcelona, I do not think he will stop being in love with the team. He’s upset, of course, with how they were defeated in the Champions League.
“Messi needs his team-mates to help him, as they do, and Barcelona will have to think of something different for the next seasons. Letting your main player leave is not the solution,” he said according to Goal.
