Argentine soccer legend Lionel Messi recently talked about retiring on the Big Time Podcast, giving insights into his future plans as he nears the end of his career.

Since he joined Inter Miami in the summer of 2023, Messi has scored 16 goals and made seven assists in 19 games across different competitions. However, at 36 years old, he has faced some injury issues, raising questions about how much longer he can continue playing.

Discussing his retirement, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner emphasized his self-awareness, admitting that he judges his performances critically. Messi mentioned that he will retire when he feels he can no longer play at his best or enjoy the game, regardless of his age.

“I am very self-critical. I know when I’m playing well or badly. When I feel it’s time to retire, I’ll do it without worrying about my age,” Messi said. “I’ll know when I’m no longer helping my team or enjoying myself on the field.”

In simpler terms, Messi is aware of his abilities and will retire when he feels it's the right time, regardless of how old he is. This insight into his retirement plans sheds light on his mindset as he approaches the later stages of his career.
