Former Nigeria international, Peter Ijeh, has said Super Eagles captain, Mikel Obi, has a lot to do against Algeria in their Russia 2018 World Cup qualifying match on Saturday.

The Eagles will host the Desert Foxes at the Uyo stadium in their second match of the qualifiers after their opening victory against Zambia in Ndola on October 9. Nigeria top Group B with three points while Algeria are third with one point following their opening day draw against Cameroon.

Former Julius Berger forward Ijeh, who is currently a coach in Sweden, told our correspondent that the team will require Mikels leadership in the match.

The Algeria match will be a tough cracker for the Eagles despite being at home and I believe that Mikel has a big role to play in the match, he said.

Although it depends on how and which position the coach chooses to play him, the other team members will draw a lot of inspiration needed to win the match from him. Wherever he plays from, he will need to show the leadership qualities he has on the pitch and he will have to talk a lot to the other players.

As the captain of the team, he also has more to do to psych up the team for them to do their best and win the match.

The former Malmo forward said the Eagles goalkeeper for the match would have to be proactive to help the team win.

He said, The goalkeeper will also have to stand out in the match. That position is constant and very sensitive. As the captain is leading the outfield players, the goalkeeper also should talk to the defenders and do his part to ensure the team win as a whole.

The Eagles can withstand the pressure from the Algerians because they are gifted with technical skills. They have to attack as a team and defend as a team. Most importantly too, they should dictate the pace of the game.

The coach should ensure that all departments are doing their jobs according to the match plan of the day.
