Nigerian defender, William Troost-Ekong, shares how tough it is to get over the disappointment of not winning the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations title.
The Super Eagles came close but lost 2-1 to hosts Cote d’Ivoire in the final match.
Troost-Ekong scored Nigeria's opening goal but Cote d’Ivoire came back to win with goals from Franck Kessie and Sebastien Haller.
Despite the loss, Troost-Ekong was awarded the Player of the Tournament prize for his outstanding performance, having scored three goals during the competition.
Reflecting on the AFCON 2023 journey, Troost-Ekong admitted it was hard to accept defeat in the final, especially when victory seemed within reach.
He mentioned that although Ivory Coast performed better on the day, losing was tough. However, he expressed gratitude for winning the Player of the Tournament award, although he would have preferred a winner's medal.
Troost-Ekong's words reflect the bitter-sweet nature of their AFCON experience and the desire for victory despite personal accolades.
