Fenerbahçe manager José Mourinho has been slapped with a four-game suspension following his controversial remarks after the club’s 0-0 draw with Galatasaray in the highly charged Istanbul Derby last weekend.
After the heated clash on Sunday, Mourinho sparked outrage by criticizing the Galatasaray bench, claiming they were "jumping like monkeys" in reaction to an early challenge. The former Chelsea and Manchester United boss also stated that the match would have been a "disaster" had it been officiated by a Turkish referee instead of Slovenia’s Slavko Vinčić.
In response, Galatasaray issued a strong statement, accusing Mourinho of racism and threatening legal action. Meanwhile, Fenerbahçe defended their coach, arguing that his comments were taken out of context and deliberately misinterpreted.
Now, as per reports from Sky Sports, the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) has decided to take action, hitting Mourinho with a two-game ban for racist remarks and an additional two-match suspension for offensive comments directed at the fourth official.
This latest development adds to Mourinho’s history of controversial incidents, raising questions about the impact on Fenerbahçe’s season as they continue their pursuit of domestic and European success.
