Mesut Ozil will not play for Fenerbahce again, according to new manager Jorge Jesus.

While speaking to the press for the first time since his appointment, Jesus mentioned "the end of the Ozil era."

The 67-year-old also indicated that it would be in the club's best interests if the former Arsenal star did not return.

Ozil hasn't played for the Turkish Super Lig team since March 20, when he was left out after a spat with temporary head coach Ismail Kartal about his fitness.

Jesus has promised to follow in the footsteps of Kartal and keep Ozil out of the starting XI.

"He was given his time and space." Nobody can take his lovely Turkish past away from him.

“He is a well-known player around the world." But I will follow exactly what was the end of the Ozil era.

“The most important thing here is not the coach, Jorge Jesus. The most important thing here is not the player, Ozil. The most important thing here is not any player,” Jesus said.

Ozil has played 36 times for the Turkish side since he joined on a free transfer from Arsenal in January 2021.
