From next season, Premier League clubs have agreed to utilize five substitutions per match.
At a meeting of all 20 clubs on Thursday, top-flight clubs voted in favor of the rule change.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, five replacements were first released in May 2020. However, for the 2020/2021 season and this campaign, the Premier League has restored three substitutes.
Several times in the last two years, clubs have voted against the introduction of five substitutes.
"Clubs have agreed to alter the rules governing substitute players." Starting next season, clubs will be allowed to make five substitutes per match, with an additional opportunity at half-time.
A statement noted, "A total of nine substitutes can be named on the squad sheet."
