Erik ten Hag, the manager, has injury concerns in the attack, so the captain of Portugal might make a rare start against City.

Since Brentford's 4-0 loss to Real Madrid earlier in the season, Ronaldo has not made a Premier League starting appearance.

He was intent on leaving Old Trafford in the summer but made a U-turn after a move failed to materialise.

Ten Hag prefers to play either Anthony Martial or Marcus Rashford up front in most games.
