History has been made as the governor of Lagos State Mr.
Babajide Sanwo-Olu redeemed the government pledge of a house to the first black African female gold medalist. The keys to the three bedroom apartment located at babatunde Raji Fashola housing estate in ipori have been presented to the athlete, who is currently serving as the assistant commissioner of police, lagos state police command.
Recalling that Chioma Ajunwa oparah a long jump athlete, inscribed the country's name in the sand of time after she won a golden medal in the 1996 summer Olympic held in Atlanta Georgia,in the United States. Records have it that the then military government promised her a house which was never fulfilled before the country's return to civilian rule in 1999.
While presenting the keys to the apartment to the benefactress,the Lagos State governor said that the feat achieved by Ajunwa helped redeem the country's bad image,as well as raised the hope of young people seeking to improve their sporting skills.
The 1996 champion described the gesture as a motivation that will ignite her dreams of raising a new generation of athletes. she further stated that the governor's gestures have further strengthened her believe in the country.
