According to Mail Sport, Todd Boehly will step down as Chelsea chairman in 2027 as part of a unique agreement with the club's American co-owners.
The arrangement allows them to rotate the chairmanship every five years.
It's anticipated that this change will occur at the end of the 2026/2027 season. Despite holding a minority stake, Boehly is expected to be the first to relinquish the role.
The majority share of 61.5% is held by Clearlake Capital, a private equity firm managed by fellow owners Behdad Eghbali and Jose Feliciano. Boehly, along with Hansjorg Wyss and Mark Walter, holds an equal split of the remaining 38.5%.
The decision for Boehly to step down first is believed to be linked to the terms of the 2022 sale agreement. This agreement states that Boehly's group would be responsible for covering any initial losses in the event of a sale.
In simpler terms, Todd Boehly will be handing over the reins as Chelsea chairman in 2027 as part of an agreement with the club's other owners, with the change expected to occur every five years.
