Destiny Udogie, who previously played for Udinese, has been added by Tottenham as their seventh summer signing on a five-year contract.
However, since he will spend the remainder of this campaign on loan in Serie A, Spurs fans will have to wait to see their new right-back in action.
Udogie, 19, participated in 35 games for Udinese in Serie A last season, contributing twice and scoring five goals. Prior to his current club making the loan permanent for £3.6 million this summer, he was initially on loan from Hellas Verona. Fabrizio Romano set the price at €18 million (£15.14 million), meaning a nice profit for Udinese even though Spurs did not mention a specific amount.
Djed Spence arrived at the club this summer and will compete with Emerson Royale and Matt Doherty for a place this season, but Udogie will back himself to win minutes next campaign. Highly-rated and already playing top-level football, this looks like a smart investment from Spurs. Even if he does not develop into a starting right-back, he should retain his value at such a young age.
