In the summer of 2021, Manchester City has denied that they were close to signing Cristiano Ronaldo.
In an interview with Piers Morgan, Ronaldo stated that a transfer to Manchester United's competitors was "close."
However, following his departure from Juventus, the 37-year-old came back to United for a second stint.
Ronaldo revealed that his legendary boss, Sir Alex Ferguson, stopped him from signing for City.
ESPN, however, reports that city sources claim Ronaldo’s comments are “not reflective” of their interest at the time, which has been described as “mild.”
Pep Guardiola eventually brought in Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund this summer after also failing to lure Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur.
