Upon the visit of Crystal Palace to Stamford Bridge, nothing short of victory would do for Chelsea .

Their pitiful 1-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City had seen them fall five points below Tottenham and the Champions League places, something that should be customary for the Premier League champions.

Nevertheless, it hasn't been an easy ride for Chelsea in recent weeks with Antonio Conte saddled with criticism and pessimistic reports.

And while Chelsea fans were justly angered by numerous features of their defeat at the Etihad Stadium, they were particularly riled by the decision to play Eden Hazard as a false nine. The Belgian is undoubtedly one of the Premier League's finest players but just wasn't as influential when played in a central role against one of England's toughest defences.

ANTONIO CONTE STARTS GIROUD V CRYSTAL PALACE

If Hazard is shuffled out wide, though, it begs the question: do you start Olivier Giroud or Alvaro Morata? Well, for the aforementioned visit of Palace, Conte opted for the former. Whether that was to respond to the physicality of the Eagles' defence or to rest Morata for the Barcelona game is unknown yet the Italian rolled his dice nevertheless. It wasn't long into the game before Chelsea fans made their mind up on the decision, either. Frankly, they completely agreed with Conte's decision. Twitter quickly became awash with Chelsea fans heralding his hold-up play, passing for teammates and general work-rate.

CHELSEA FANS HERALDING GIROUD PLAYING OVER MORATA

For all of Morata's superior pedigree and status, fans were decided - check out the reaction: It certainly looks a little awkward for Arsenal fans no doubt about it. There was also plenty of musings over the future of Morata, who was brought to Chelsea with such a weighty transfer fee and has failed to impress since a flying start to life in blue. His plethora of misses against Arsenal compounded his recent fortunes and, simply put, if Giroud continues to impress in west London, it could be a long road back to the starting XI. Who do you think should start - Giroud or Morata? Have your say in the comments section below.

Giroud is actually decent in our style of play whether I like it or not. Even when he fucks it up its dropping to an extra man and getting us chances. Morata may have decent feet and some pace Big Tom Ovrebo.

@ChelseaGunman That's why I would prefer Giroud over Morata ....He may not be quick but his hold up play and link up play is far better #CHECRY #Giroud #Morata
