Despite three months to the kick off of the African Women's Championship (AWCON), the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has stripped Ghana of the hosting rights of the 2018 edition of the tournament which has been slated to commence in November.

The decision by CAF to strip Ghana of the hosting right can be linked to the unimpressed state of things with the progress of work at venues for the competition which are terribly discouraging.

In the CAF President Ahmad Ahmad statement, he revealed that they are talking to some countries to take over as hosts of the two-week tournament, with Kenya withdrawing their interest in hosting the competition.

However, he remains confident that a new host will be announced in September. Ahmad said "We are engaging several countries and should be able to announce a host during the CAF Extraordinary General Assembly in Egypt next month,"

Meanwhile, Ghana’s Black Queens are also set to miss out on a place at the global showpiece as their place at the tournament will be taken by the new hosts who will join Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Algeria, South Africa, Zambia, Mali and Nigeria who have already qualified.
