Recently, the Nigerian entertainment industry has been inundated with varying views on the purported beef between the country’s A-list comedians, Bright Okpocha, popularly known as Basketmouth, and Ayo Mayokun, called AY.
Similarly, other celebrity beefs, such as Georgina Onuoha vs. Chioma Chukwuka and Tonto Dike vs. Blessing CEO, among others, have become major talking points.
While Basketmouth and AY presented divergent views at different media engagements, Nigerians have not failed to pounce on the matter to cool off their worries.
In the past, Nigeria’s two iconic singers, Davido and Wizkid, who started out as friends, became rivals due to their rapid growth in the industry.
They had thrown subtle jabs at each other and fought supremacy battles among themselves before resolving their issue.
They now seem to have squashed their beef, as Wizkid recently showed support for Davido’s latest album, Timeless.

BasketMouth vs AY
The latest beef in the entertainment industry is between comedians Bright Okpocha, AKA Basketmouth, and Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY.
Not many Nigerians knew that the two top comedians were not "cool" with each other until last week.
In a recent interview, AY revealed that the duo have avoided each other for 17 years.
He said the feud began after he stood in for Basketmouth at a show in 2006 but was not paid.
The father of two said he later discovered that the client had made the payment before the event, and their rift began when he shared a picture of his chats with the man who booked the gig.
In reaction, the comic star, while responding to AY’s allegations, maintained that they have never been friends.
According to him, although he has forgotten all that transpired in 2006, 90 percent of what AY said were lies, hence his initial decision not to honor him with a response.
He also accused AY of chasing clout and likened him to a snake that can never change but rather sheds its skin to become a bigger snake.
He said AY omitted the fact that he was paid for the one-off deal after he (BasketMouth) got information that he had not been paid.
He stressed that there was no client involved in the deal but that it was Alibaba that urged him to put AY on the show to laugh and jam.
Basketmouth, who had disclosed that he was quitting comedy soon, added that he stayed away from AY because he was shocked to hear some things that threw him off.
“That incident [$30k] sef, I don forget. That matter, no client is involved. In actual fact, when this matter came outside, when I first heard the thing, I said, What?’ Like say na 20 percent of wettin him talk be lie, I for don vex sef say you know what let me set it. But when 90 per cent of wettin him talk na lie. I am still in shock. All my men laugh at me because they warned me, saying, Guy, be careful.
“It was only one job." And that job, when I heard them say they would never pay me, I told Magnums, Please pay him’. And they paid him. He omitted that information. I know the move. The guy [AY] needs to promote shows; he needs to sell tickets. "That's the truth,” he added.
Georgina vs Chioma Chukwuka
The friends-turned-enemies rekindled their four-year-old beef during the March 25, 2023, governorship election in Lagos State.
It all started after Chioma cried out that she was assaulted by thugs at her polling unit in Eti-Osa LGA. Narrating the ugly incident, the actress was forced to flee her polling unit with her friends.
Georgina, however, told her that she had no right to complain because she had warned her against sharing posts of people lamenting rigging and violence at polling units in 2019.
She said this led to their four-year-old rift, adding that Chioma was “cow-shouting” over electoral violence.
Angered by her statement, Chioma described Georgina as an “enemy within."
She also dared Georgina to show proof of the funds she was said to have accepted from politicians in order to support them in 2019 or risk legal action.
Tonto Dike Vs Blessing CEO
In what seems like the beginning of a new feud, Nollywood actress Tonto Dike rejoiced over the arrest of self-proclaimed therapist and relationship expert, Blessing Okoro, AKA Blessing CEO.
Blessing CEO was arrested and arraigned over her alleged involvement in auto dealer Ikechukwu Ogbonna, popularly known as IVD, and his late wife, Bimbo Ogbonna’s case.
The blogger was accused of exposing Folashade Samuel and the late Bimbo Ogbonna to hatred, contempt, and ridicule using her Instagram handle.
The relationship therapist, who was last week arraigned on a six-count charge of alleged libel, cyberbullying, and exhibiting uncensored movies, was granted N10 million bail.
Tonto recounted how Blessing CEO allegedly brought pain and sorrow to the deceased.
According to the mother of one, Blessing did the dead wrong and deserves her predicament.
Blessing's CEO, who is known to be a fierce critic, has yet to respond to Tonto Dike.
Ruby Ojiakor vs Sarraphina Amaechi
Ruby incurred the wrath of Sarraphina when she almost hit her with her car. The two engaged in a verbal altercation after Ruby, who was seen driving playfully, almost hit Sarraphina while she was coming from the opposite direction.
Angered by her action, Sarraphina queried her colleague and wondered if she was attempting to harm her by playing on the road.
While Ruby tried to plead with her, Sarraphina stormed off and returned with an iron, destroying Ruby’s windscreen.
Ruby, in shock, insisted that she was only joking with Sarraphina.
