Nigerian-American actress Ayo Edebiri has opened up about receiving “insane” death threats and racial slurs due to billionaire Elon Musk.
Edebiri shared that the harassment began after Musk amplified a fake report in February 2024, which falsely claimed that Disney was considering her as a replacement for Johnny Depp in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
Reacting to the report at the time, the X owner simply wrote, “Disney sucks,”—a move that Edebiri believes fueled the controversy, bringing her an onslaught of threats and hate messages.
Taking to her Instagram story, she reflected on the experience:
"Just remembering when I got some of the most insane death threats and racial slurs of my life (idk if it’s the #1 moment, but for sure top 3) for a fake reboot of a movie I had never even heard of because of this man. LMAO. So not only is he [Elon Musk] double Sieg Heil-ing fascist, he’s an idiot but anyway.”
Edebiri’s revelation has since sparked conversations about misinformation, online harassment, and the influence of high-profile figures in shaping public discourse.
