Nigerian Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has shared his perspective on marijuana, stating that he does not consider it a hard drug.
Speaking on The Morning Hustle podcast, Davido highlighted his foundation’s plans to address the growing issue of drug abuse and to support orphanages through donations.
“I’m donating this year to help combat youth drug abuse,” Davido revealed. “I do not consider marijuana to be a hard drug. Although I don’t consider marijuana to be a drug, some people claim that I smoke it.”
Davido acknowledged the rising problem of drug addiction among youth and emphasized the importance of providing assistance to help individuals recover from substance abuse. However, his stance on marijuana has sparked criticism, with some labelling his actions hypocritical due to his personal use of the substance.
In a separate interview with Rollingout podcast, Davido spoke about the pivotal role his father, Adedeji Adeleke, played in shaping his values and resilience. Raised in a devout Christian household, Davido credits his father’s faith-driven teachings for helping him overcome life’s challenges.
“My father taught me to never doubt God, and that has been my source of strength during difficult times,” Davido shared.
