A few months after the saddened boat mishap, Nollywood actress and producer Adanma Luke has publicly apologized following a devastating boat accident that took the lives of actor John Odonwodo, better known as Junior Pope, and four others.
In an emotional video shared on her Instagram page on Monday, Luke expressed deep sorrow and revealed that she has been battling severe depression since the tragic incident, which occurred in April.
Luke opened up about her declining mental health, admitting that the emotional burden has made it impossible for her to work or even seek new job opportunities. "I’m gradually losing my life," she pleaded, asking for prayers from her followers as she continues to struggle with the overwhelming grief and public criticism that have followed the accident.
In her apology, Luke conveyed her anguish, saying, "I’m just here to say that I’m sorry. I’m sorry, Nigerians. I’m sorry I took away your loved ones—that’s what people are saying. I’m very sad. No matter how much I try to stay strong, I just don’t feel strong. It breaks my heart that this happened on my set, that they had to work for me at that particular time. I’m not God. It was destined to happen, but why did it have to happen to me?"
The actress, who typically avoids public drama, acknowledged that the situation has thrust her into the spotlight. She admitted to struggling with the weight of public opinion, sharing, "A lot of people have been dragging me; some have been telling me, ‘Ada, don’t talk. Let this die; don’t talk.’ But I’m going through a lot."
Luke also confessed that before this incident, she didn’t fully understand what depression was. "I’m gradually losing my life. I’m regretting a lot of things. I don’t even know how to reach out to people for jobs anymore," she added, highlighting the profound impact the tragedy has had on her mental well-being.
