The wrestling world is mourning the loss of Rey Misterio Sr.
, a legendary luchador, who passed away at the age of 66. His untimely death comes just weeks after the Mysterio family faced another heartbreaking loss with the passing of Rey Mysterio's father, Robert Gutierrez, at 76.
Miguel Ángel López Días, famously known as Rey Misterio Sr., was a cornerstone of Mexican wrestling. Born in Tijuana, Mexico, in 1955, he started as a boxer before finding his true calling in the world of wrestling. Misterio Sr. began his wrestling career in 1976, captivating fans with his masked persona, and officially retired in 2009.
The tragic news was confirmed by Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, a prominent Mexican wrestling company, who shared a heartfelt tribute on social media:
"We regret the sensitive death of Miguel Ángel López Días, known as Rey Mysterio Sr. We send our most sincere condolences to his loved ones and raise our prayers to heaven for his eternal rest."
Rey Misterio Sr. was not only a wrestling icon but also a mentor to his nephew, WWE Hall of Fame legend Rey Mysterio, who carried the family legacy to global fame.
This loss adds to the grief Rey Mysterio has recently endured. Paying tribute to his late father, Robert Gutierrez, the 50-year-old WWE superstar expressed his gratitude and admiration:
