Shannen Doherty, renowned for her roles on the iconic series “Beverly Hills, 90210” and the fantasy drama “Charmed,” has passed away at the age of 53 after a long battle with breast cancer.
Diagnosed in 2015, Doherty fought the disease with remarkable strength and resilience.
"It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress Shannen Doherty," her publicist Leslie Sloane said in a statement. "On Saturday, July 13, she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease. The devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie. The family asks for their privacy at this time so they can grieve in peace."
Doherty's fight against cancer began nearly a decade ago. After her initial diagnosis in 2015, she announced she was in remission in April 2017. However, by 2019, the cancer had returned. The following year, she revealed her diagnosis of metastatic stage 4 cancer. In June 2023, Doherty shared that cancer had spread to her brain, and she had undergone surgery to remove a brain tumour.
Despite her health struggles, Doherty remained determined to continue working. In 2023, she told People, "People just assume that it means you can’t walk, you can’t eat, you can’t work. They put you out to pasture at a very early age—'You’re done, you’re retired,’ and we’re not. We’re vibrant, and we have such a different outlook on life. We want to work, embrace life, and keep moving forward."
