A former bank employee, Mike Ilishebo, aged 44, has been implicated in the tragic death of his 35-year-old wife, Valerie Franco, before ending his own life in Zambia.
The harrowing incident unfolded at Meanwood Ndeke Phase One area in Lusaka on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, sending shockwaves through the community.
Confirming the devastating occurrence, Police Public Relations Officer Rae Hamoonga issued a statement on Thursday, April 4, detailing the horrific events. According to Hamoonga, Mr. Ilishebo allegedly strangled Valerie with an electric power adapter cable and inflicted stab wounds to her abdomen with a knife.
"At approximately 16:05 hours on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, Chelston Police Station, through Ndeke-vorna Police Post, received a distressing report from Alice Mapulanga, 38, that Mr. Ilishebo had perpetrated a heinous act against his wife, Valerie, aged 35," Hamoonga stated.
Upon the arrival of police officers at the scene, Valerie Franco's lifeless body was discovered in the bedroom, adjacent to the bed, with a knife lodged in her abdomen. Meanwhile, Mr. Ilishebo was found deceased in the sitting room, with signs of poisoning evident.
The tragic incident is believed to have occurred between 15:00 and 16:00 hours, leaving behind a community in mourning. The bodies have been transported to the University Teaching Hospital mortuary for further examination.
Hamoonga indicated that the motive behind the distressing event appears to be rooted in a long-standing marital dispute between the couple, who shared an eight-month-old child.
As investigations continue into this heart-wrenching case, the community grapples with the shock and grief of losing two lives in such a tragic manner. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of addressing domestic disputes and seeking support to prevent such devastating outcomes.
