The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has denied working together with the All Progressives Congress (APC) in advance of the 2023 election.
The party exhorted its supporters and the general public to ignore the "false claim."
Rufus Aiyenigba, the national publicity secretary, spoke on Thursday at a press conference in Abuja.
Alfa Mohammed alleged that the SDP was considering a coalition with the APC and Bola Tinubu, the APC's presidential candidate. Aiyenigba responded to this.
The party no longer counts Mohammed, the former Deputy National Publicity Director, as a member, according to the spokesperson.
Aiyenigba recalled that several statements and writings attributed to the former official had been disowned by the leadership.
The National Working Committee (NWC) removed Mohammed from his position as deputy spokesperson in November 2018 and suspended him in March 2019.
Mohammed, according to Aiyenigba, was expelled from the organization in August 2019 by the National Executive Committee (NEC), and the National Convention upheld this decision in June 2022.
Mohammed currently belongs to the APC and is a prominent member of one of its support groups.
“There is no way a man who is playing such a role in the APC could be said to be an official of the SDP," he noted.
