Senator Teslim Folarin, a candidate for governor from the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been adopted by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Oyo State.
Party leaders from the 33 local government areas attended a meeting on Thursday that was presided over by State Chairman Michael Okunlade.
The panel evaluated how the platform fared in the presidential and National Assembly elections, according to NAN.
Separately, the leaders claimed that Governor Seyi Makinde had broken a deal with the groups that helped him win in 2019 and that this was why they had chosen to support Folarin.
“Majority of us had decided to join APC, owing to the injustice meted to us in the PDP and since we started,” Okunlade said.
The politician stressed the need to form “a virile coalition with a party that can dislodge this administration that has shown itself to be lacking in development."
Okunlade, however, explained that the endorsement was just for the gubernatorial contest, urging supporters to vote for SDP House of Assembly candidates.
The declaration came three days after the Labour Party, LP, backed incumbent Makinde of the People's Democratic Party, PDP.
At a media briefing on Wednesday, the SDP flagbearer, Michael Lana, a former Commissioner of Justice and Attorney General, vowed not to step down for the governor.
