A tragic road accident on the Abuja-Kaduna expressway claimed the lives of 21 travelers on Thursday.

The fatal collision involved a trailer truck and a passenger Hummer bus, both en route to Kano and Batsari in Katsina State.

Eyewitnesses reported that the accident occurred near a route diversion, where vehicles from both directions were forced onto a single lane. The driver of the articulated vehicle fled the scene, leaving his truck and a container vehicle, which blocked the already busy highway.

An anonymous official from the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) confirmed that three passengers survived the crash and were rushed to Umaru Musa Memorial Hospital in Sabon-Wuse for urgent medical care. The remains of the deceased were transferred to the hospital’s morgue.

A motorist who witnessed the accident emphasized the importance of road safety: "This is a wake-up call for all of us to be more careful on the road. Caution and patience are crucial while driving."

As of now, both the FRSC and police authorities have yet to officially confirm the incident. The Divisional Police Officer of Tafa Division in Kaduna State, Idris Ibrahim, is reportedly compiling a detailed report on the accident.
