Former Minister of Labour Employment and Productivity, Simon Lalong, has officially taken his oath as a member of the 10th Senate.

The swearing-in ceremony took place on Wednesday during a session presided over by the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio.

The solemn moment occurred at approximately 11:57 am on the Senate floor, where Lalong, a former governor of Plateau State, pledged to fulfill his duties to the best of his abilities as the representative for Plateau-South on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, extended his congratulations to Lalong immediately after the oath-taking. Lalong had played a crucial role as the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress Campaigns during the 2023 presidential election that saw the emergence of President Bola Tinubu.

Expressing his joy over the inauguration, the National Chairman of the APC, Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje, described it as a moment of happiness for the party. He emphasized the importance of good legislation, highlighting that with the APC holding the majority, they are committed to working for the prosperity of all Nigerians.

The legal victory that paved the way for Simon Lalong's senatorial representation occurred on November 7, when the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, upheld the judgment of the lower tribunal, affirming Lalong as the duly elected winner of the Plateau-South Senatorial District election. The successful legal defense secured his position as a member of the 10th Senate, setting the stage for his contributions to legislative matters and national development.
