President Bola Tinubu on Monday swore in the newly appointed Federal Commissioner representing Ogun State, Akeem Amosun, along with 20 others.

Tinubu also swore in eight federal permanent secretaries.

They were sworn in at the year’s first Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting, held at the State House Council Chambers, Abuja.

Amosun was sworn in for a five-year term alongside federal commissioners from other states, including Anambra, Katsina, Lagos, Enugu, Kano, Ekiti, Ondo, and Zamfara.

According to his appointment letter, signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, the appointment follows Senate confirmation on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, for an initial term of five years, in accordance with Sections 154 (1) and 155 (1) C of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).

The letter further stated that the appointment takes effect from February 3, 2025.

NaijaCrawl reports that Amosun, a former candidate for the Abeokuta South Constituency, is a chartered stockbroker and financial expert.

The accounting graduate from Obafemi Awolowo University ran for the Abeokuta South Federal Constituency seat in 2019 on the platform of the Alliance for New Nigeria, ANN, and later defected to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

In the build-up to the 2023 elections, Amosun also left the opposition party and joined the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

NaijaCrawl recalls that Amosun was handed the Ogun State slot in the RMAFC. Speaking shortly after the swearing-in, he expressed his gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and the Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, for recommending him.
