In the lead-up to the upcoming APC primary election in Ondo, Wale Akinterinwa, a prominent aspirant, has raised accusations against Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, claiming that he and other aspirants were barred from welcoming President Bola Tinubu to the state.
President Tinubu had arrived in Akure, the state capital, on Wednesday, with the purpose of extending condolences to the government and people of Ondo over the demise of former Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
Akinterinwa asserted that it is customary for party members to gather at the airport to welcome the president during such visits. However, he alleged that Governor Aiyedatiwa prevented them from being present at the airport, deeming the directive as undemocratic, disrespectful, and unreasonable.
Accusing Governor Aiyedatiwa of having an "ignorant mind," Akinterinwa went on to claim that the governor had intended to "unleash mayhem" on aspirants and their supporters if they had proceeded to the airport.
In response to these allegations, Governor Aiyedatiwa's spokesperson, Ebenezer Adeniyan, clarified that President Tinubu's visit was of a private nature and not for political campaigns.
This incident sheds light on the political dynamics at play in Ondo, with the clash between aspirants and the state government taking center stage. Stay tuned for further developments as the political landscape unfolds in the run-up to the primary election.
