In a recent development, the Kaduna State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken action against its state Women Leader for her defense of the immediate-past governor, Nasir El-Rufai, amidst controversy surrounding the state's substantial debt.

Governor Uba Sani, in a statement on Friday, expressed concerns about the significant debt burden inherited from his predecessor, Nasir El-Rufai, during a town hall meeting held on Saturday. However, the state Women Leader voiced her disagreement with the governor's stance, alleging betrayal on his part towards El-Rufai.

She asserted, "If you say there is no money in Kaduna State, why don’t you resign? Notwithstanding the huge debt burden, he ran from pillar to post trying to get the party’s governorship ticket from Mallam [El-Rufai]. It is a clear case of betrayal."

Highlighting El-Rufai's support for Governor Sani's political career, she claimed that Sani played a significant role in securing loans during El-Rufai's administration. However, her remarks led to her suspension from the party, as outlined in a letter co-signed by the state chairman and secretary, Ali Maishago and Zakka Bassahuwa, respectively.

The letter cited the woman leader's actions as constituting defamation of the governor's character, thus warranting her suspension in accordance with the party's constitution.

This development underscores the tensions within the APC in Kaduna State, reflecting broader divisions within the party over governance and leadership transitions. As the situation unfolds, it raises questions about the party's unity and cohesion in the face of internal dissent and differing perspectives on the state's political trajectory.
