Barely four days before the governorship elections, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP and other political parties have thrown their weight behind the candidacy of Titus Uba, the flagbearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP.

The endorsement of Uba by the nine political parties comes barely two days after a coalition of 94 ‘Obidients’ groups that worked for the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, also pitched their tents with the PDP candidate.

They pledged to work for his victory at the polls on Saturday.

The nine political parties that declared their support for Uba on Tuesday during a meeting with Governor Samuel Ortom and Uba at the Benue Peoples House, Makurdi, include the National Rescue Movement (NRM), the Action Alliance (AC), and the African Action Congress (AAC.

Others are the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), the Social Democratic Party (SDP), the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), the Boot Party (BP), as well as the Action Peoples Party (APP.

The leader of the political parties, Mr. Paul Aondofa Tor, stated that their decision to support Uba was based on their conviction that he was the only candidate who would sustain the good works of Governor Samuel Ortom.

Mr. Tor, who is the state chairman of the National Rescue Movement, pointed out that the nine political parties were determined to ensure that Uba would not trade the state into the hands of people who would render the state homeless.

Governor Samuel Ortom, who is the leader of the PDP in the state, expressed appreciation to the leadership of the political parties for their initiative to adopt and work for the victory of the PDP governorship candidate, noting that their decision was an indication that they have placed Benue State first.

The Governor also lauded them for “not chickening out and not accepting crumbs and selfish interests that would further create poverty and problems for the people of Benue State.”

The governor said Titus Uba, who had been the Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly for two terms, has the capacity and the required experience to move the state to another phase of development and also consolidate on the legacies of his administration.

Uba, who was also present at the ceremony, assured the parties that when voted into office, he would not disappoint the state.

The PDP governor candidate and his deputy, John Ngbede; the acting state chairman of the PDP, Isaac Mffo; and the special adviser to the governor on politics and inter-party relations, Bem Dzoho, were among those who attended the interface.
