A clash between rival terrorist factions has led to the deaths of several fighters from the Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, and the Bakoura-led Boko Haram.

The confrontation occurred east of Mallam Fatori in Borno State, near the border with the Niger Republic, towards the eastern part of Boso.

Security analyst and counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama stated that “the fighting led to the deaths of dozens of terrorists on both sides, with several fighters sustaining severe injuries.”

Reports indicate that the clash resulted in heavy casualties.

“The two groups have been engaged in a bitter rivalry over influence and control in the area. This latest confrontation has further weakened their operational strength, as many fighters were killed and their hideouts exposed,” Makama added.

This development comes as ISWAP held a mass funeral for jihadists neutralized by the Nigerian Air Force on 19 March in Mafa Local Government Area.

The burial took place on Sunday in the villages of Talwari and Muktari in Konduga Local Government Area.
