The Borno State government has dismissed circulating reports that Umara, a son of Governor Babagana Zulum, was arrested for allegedly murdering an Indian national.
According to social media claims, Umara, a student at a university in New Delhi, supposedly smashed a bottle of alcoholic drink on a Chinese national in a nightclub altercation over a woman.
Abdurrahman Ahmed Bundi, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Zulum on New Media, refuted these allegations in a statement on Wednesday. He clarified that none of the governor's sons had been arrested, charged with any crime, or involved in any unlawful activities. Bundi urged the public to be cautious about the information they consume and share.
"The Borno State Governor’s media unit‘s attention has been drawn to rumors circulating that the son of the Borno State Governor has been arrested for the alleged murder of some Indian citizen," Bundi stated. "This misinformation was published in an online blog, titled 'Son of Borno State Governor Murders Someone In India—Politics.' The blog claimed that the Governor also traveled to India, attempting to use diplomatic status to resolve the matter."
Bundi emphasized that Governor Zulum was on a one-month vacation in Saudi Arabia for the 2024 Hajj and subsequently traveled to Egypt to attend the annual ASUWAN forum conference in Cairo. He condemned the spread of defamatory content by the blog, labeling it as completely false and without any basis in truth.
