Over 1,000 members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi Local Government defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the weekend, rocking the state's ruling party (PDP).
The leader of the defectors, Alhaji Abdullahi Isah of Gegu South, who spoke on behalf of others, announced their defection, saying they joined the PDP because of the injustice meted out by the APC leadership.
Their decision, according to the spokesman, was influenced by their desire to fulfill the wishes of the throngs of fans distributed over the eleven wards of the Kogi local government region.
"We feel that PDP has the greatest team, with Hon. Shaba Ibrahim as the party's flagbearer in the House of Representatives and Hon.
TJ Yusuf for the Kogi West Senatorial District." "How can we stay in an undemocratic party where a few individuals, posing as GYBists, turn the party we worked for into their own limited company?" he wondered.
He explained that before deciding to leave the APC, he made several attempts to resolve issues relating to the promise made by Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, in 2019 that Koton Karfe would present a Lokoja/Kogi Federal Constituency candidate, but the aspirant from Kogi was legally excluded through thuggery and undemocratic means.
