In a move stirring widespread debate, President Bola Tinubu has rolled out a new set of stringent regulations for Nigeria's military personnel.

The updated guidelines, outlined in the Harmonised Armed Forces Terms and Conditions of Service, impose strict bans on certain behaviors deemed incompatible with military discipline and ethics.

Key prohibitions include homosexuality, cross-dressing, bestiality, and any association with the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual (LGBTQIA+) movements. The rules also outlaw body piercing and tattooing, categorizing them as unsuitable for members of the armed forces.

The revised code of conduct underscores the need for impeccable behavior, both on and off duty. Disorderly conduct, public brawls, or actions that bring disgrace to the military are strictly forbidden. Additionally, military personnel found intoxicated—whether on duty or not—will face severe disciplinary action.

These sweeping changes are set to reshape the professional and personal lives of Nigeria's armed forces, reinforcing a culture of discipline and decorum. The new directives highlight the military's commitment to upholding its ethical standards, ensuring its personnel maintain the dignity and integrity expected of their roles.
